Rite of Final Sacrifice
What is presented here is a very basic form for the Rite of Final Sacrifice most people actually prepare to perform
this rite with some sections or even all of the rite in a Celtic language. Each tribe or local congregation who chooses to
use this rite will tailor it to their own exact needs. This particular text is here presented all in English though the tribe
from which it comes actually uses it with considerable amounts of Gaelic. Because of the nature of the sudden need for this
rite many of the members of a group should be taught how to perform this for one another so that it may be done when needed
by whoever is present.
This is designed to be performed by one person who has come prepared with a cup of some sort with water therein and
some items to give as offerings, small silver coins are easy to transport and use.
“Blessings on all here”
“May the Gods be with you”
“Peace of the Gods within this place”
“Blessings of the Gods and Ancestors upon this person”
Present the cup holding it up before the dying and say: “Behold the cup of truth may we all partake and know
that we are of one people.” Take a sip from the cup and it may be shared with anyone else present after sharing the
cup among those present the dying person is either assisted in taking a drink or if unable the cup is touched to the lips
or hand of the person.
An offering is held up and the Tribal Patron is addressed: “This person is prepared to pass across the threshold
of worlds. Resting now in the arms of our people in this world, but soon to rest in the arms of our people in the next world.
Accept this sacrifice freely given and show favor on this one of our people.
Another offering is held up and the personal Patron of the dying individual is addressed: “This person is ready
to pass across the threshold of worlds, accept this sacrifice freely given and show favor on this one who has walked so closely
with you.”
A third offering is held up and a chthonic Deity is addressed: “We ask that you accept this sacrifice freely
given and grant a gentle journey to the next world for this person.”
Address the dying person placing a hand on them if you can, any other members present may also place a hand on the
person and say: “You are of the people, you have feasted with us in this world and you will feast now with the ancestors
in the next world. Know that you will be honored and spoken well of among the folk.”
“Gods be with you”
The three offerings
given in sacrifice may be placed in a tribal offering shaft, a natural body of water or placed in the hand of the person prior
to being buried or cremated.
